This Way Poohenge Lies

I was not planning to post this, not wanting to be one of Those People, but upon multiple requests I have relented.  It's a little something that Princess deposited in her litter box just after I arrived home this afternoon.

First of all, this is Princess:

She weighs a mere 5.8 lbs. and is recovering from major surgery that she underwent less than a week ago.

Below is her litter box creation, which can be best described as Poohenge, and which weighs almost as much as she does, I'm pretty sure.

I'm putting it after the jump because it is, after all, a photo of poo in a litter box, which is probably not something everybody wants to see.  Please assess the strength of your stomach versus your desire to feast your eyes upon Poohenge and proceed accordingly.

Best Twitter Day Ever

Be still, my nerdy heart.  On Saturday I got a tattoo to commemorate my undying love of Fringe.

If you're unfamiliar, the White Tulip was a very important and meaningful bit of Fringe symbolism.

I've been proudly showing off my new tattoo on Twitter all week, and today a friend suggested I should tweet it to the cast.  So I did.

And then this happened:

And then THIS happened:

And then I died and went to Nerd Heaven.

The end.

A is for Access

So I received my scarlet A pin in the mail yesterday from A is for... and spent today thinking about what the A means to me.

A is for Access.  You may, technically, have a right to something, but if you are unable to access that right, it is worthless.  In order for a right to mean anything at all, you must be able to fully avail yourself of it. (A is for Avail.)

We must have access to the full range of women's health care services, and that includes reproductive health care, and that includes abortion and birth control.  All of it.  ALL. OF. IT.  (A is for All Of It.)

Our access to health care must be free from government intrusion, financial obstacles, legal hurdles and ridiculous nonsense such as mandatory waiting periods, unnecessary transvaginal ultrasounds, or being forced to listen to a non-factually correct script that our doctors are forced to read to us in an attempt to frighten or shame us out of our choices.

Women's health care (ALL OF IT) should be covered by medical insurance (and everyone should have access to medical insurance), and no one but our doctors should be involved in our medical decisions unless we choose to involve someone else.

Reproductive rights opponents are working hard to shut down our access to those rights by chipping away at them until they are so difficult to make use of that they may as well not even exist.  I'm not going to stand silent and let them do that.  I hope you won't, either.

A is for Access.  Demand it.

Punkin

1995 ~ September 6, 2012

I will, one day, write a long post about Punkin (or likely several posts, because there is that much to say about him), but right now I'm still not up to it.  I can't even think about writing about Punkin yet without crying so hard that I can't see what I'm typing.  He was a once-in-a-lifetime cat and I miss him so much.

Hangin' with Project5050

Project5050 has made their way back to Austin and I was fortunate to be able to spend some time with them yesterday afternoon and then have lunch with them today.  Last year they were on a really tight schedule, so we didn't have a lot of time to chat when they swung by to pick up the donations I'd collected.  They're doing a more relaxed trip this year and it's been lovely to get to know them a little better in person.

Yesterday, Shay tweeted me to let me know they'd arrived in Austin and were hanging out at Duncan Park, very close to my office.  I got some help loading up all of the donations into my car (my little Honda was stuffed full!) and drove over to the park to drop them off on my way home.  I collected quite a bit more this year than last, and I was thrilled to be able to give them so much stuff to give away!

We stood around and chatted for half an hour or so, and then today they met me for lunch at Central Market.  We sat outside so the dogs could sit with us and had a nice, leisurely lunch and conversation before they headed to Barton Springs to cool off and I headed off to do my grocery shopping.  We were a pretty popular table because so many people wanted to stop and say hello to the dogs, who were beautifully behaved.

Indi

Look at that face!  One little girl even got to feed Indi a french fry and he was a perfect gentleman.

Zuzu

Such a good girl! Seriously one of the sweetest, most well-behaved dogs I have ever met.

Robert and Indi

Shane and Shay

These are three of the best people you could ever hope to meet.  I admire them so much.  We are planning to hook up for dinner tomorrow and I'm so glad I'll get to see them again before they leave town.

If you'd like to read more about the project or make a donation, be sure to check out their website.  There is a PayPal donation button at the bottom left of the page.
